Redwood Upper
Marcel Pourroy

Located in the southern part of Nisene Marks State Park in

Aptos, California (near Santa Cruz), and only minutes from the Pacific Ocean, Marcel's Forest is a diverse landscape of redwood forests and oak woodlands that contains hiking trails, a picnic area, and serene sites where you can stop and watch nature in action.

This scenic 25 acres was once privately owned by the Marcel Pourroy family who gave the property to the state park system after their father's death. Marcel's Forest and its nature trails are a must to see if you are inspired by nature or only want to glimpse the beauty of our mountain forests as generations before us must have seen it.

One of the most beautiful trails in Marcel's Forest, Old-Growth Loop, passes by ancient redwoods, such as "The Advocate Tree," one of the oldest and largest redwoods remaining in the state park. The trail also passes through "Twisted Grove," a stand of unusual redwoods that twist and bend, and through sites where native plants display their beauty year round. As an introduction to this special trail, interpretive information for Old-Growth Loop is found on the following pages of this Web site.
